Honorable Diane D'Agostini – Bio
Judge Diane Dickow D'Agostini was elected a District Judge in November 2000, having won all 84 precincts in the 48th District. She has been appointed Chief Judge by the Michigan Supreme Court for several terms and was reelected to the 48th District Court for six-year terms in November 2006 and 2012.
Judge D'Agostini finds great reward in teaching our youth about the law. She formed a program directed specifically for children called, "Order in the Court". The program has involved thousands of local 4th graders coming to court to learn about the law in a simple and age appropriate manner, featuring a mock trial staged by the students. It has earned "favorite field trip" comments by many of the school children and has become an annual field trip for many of the local schools. |
Judge D'Agostini devotes much of her professional and personal time to educating our youth about the dangers of underage drinking and drug use. She holds court sessions at local schools so that students can view the direct ramifications of drug and alcohol use. Field trips are often arranged to the court where the students observe proceedings and participate in a question and answer period with the judge. She serves as a guest speaker for many of our local schools and is involved with community coalitions to prevent underage drinking and drug use. She presently serves on the Board of the Birmingham/Bloomfield Community coalition.
Prior to being elected a District Judge, Diane D'Agostini served as an assistant prosecutor in Oakland County for nine years. She prosecuted criminal cases in the Warrants Division, District Court Division, Circuit Court Division and served as the Chief of the Parole Appeal Section. In this role, she successfully blocked the release of numerous violent prisoners including murderers, child molesters and other dangerous prisoners.
She was recognized as an Esteemed Woman in 2016 by the Gary Burnstein Community Health Clinic. In 2012, she was recognized as the Distinguished Alumna of Mercy High School and also awarded the Domestic Violence Prevention Award by the Oakland County Coordinating Council Against Domestic Violence.
Judge D'Agostini received her Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in journalism from Wayne State University and was published in several local magazines before going to law school. She graduated cum laude from the Detroit College of Law, presently Michigan State University, College of Law and furthered her legal studies at Oxford University in England.
