Janella James Biography

​Janella James currently serves as the Executive Director for the Michigan Nurses Association. She has two decades of experience working in the labor movement for three different unions covering municipal, education, and healthcare workers. Janella is a proud graduate of public universities in Michigan, including receiving her MBA from Michigan State University’s Eli Broad College of Business. She began her role as MNA’s executive director in 2020 during the
pandemic and served the organization through the tumultuous time that followed. Her professional experience has provided her with an expertise in crisis management, organizational culture, leadership development, and strategic planning. She currently lives in Ypsilanti, Michigan and is an active community member.
