Marian ReichMarian Reich has led Global Ties Detroit as President since June 2012. In this role, she builds meaningful global connections by guiding international exchange programs and hosting citizen diplomacy events that bring Detroiters and emerging global leaders together. Before relocating to Detroit, Marian served as Assistant Director at World Chicago from 2003 to 2011. Her passion for international exchange took root during high school at the Friends School of Baltimore, where a class trip to Russia and Ukraine sparked a lifelong interest in cross-cultural engagement. She earned her B.A. in Modern Languages and Linguistics, with a concentration in Russian and a minor in International Relations, from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), including a semester abroad in Moscow. Marian went on to complete an M.A. in Slavic Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), followed by a year teaching English at the University of Technology in
Gdańsk, Poland. In addition to her work in international exchange, Marian has held roles in community engagement and workforce development at JVS Chicago, Chicago Women in Trades, and the Target Group. She lives in Royal Oak with her husband, Daniel Lorca, a professor of Spanish literature at Oakland University. |
